Alchemy of Life

Experience becomes insight and
doubt becomes a new beginning.

That’s exactly what this series is about: the quiet or sometimes wild transformation that life demands of us – and the courage to allow it.

These works were created in 2023 during an intense process between two exhibitions: The first part was shown at the Modern Art Gallery Karlsruhe, the second in July at the Cline House Gallery in Cornwall, Canada. In between – in the time between continents – all the paintings in this series were created.

What connects them: the decision not to hold back. I wanted to create a color explosion of life. And I wanted to face my own threshold moments. The large painting Someone That Turns Your Heart Around was created live in the gallery – 300 x 150 cm, in front of an audience. I knew it would be uncomfortable. But that was exactly the point: transformation through action.

However, the series gained its true depth through an artistic collaboration: For several months, I worked weekly via Zoom with Canadian artist Tracy Lynn Chisholm. Our conversations, our themes, our inner alchemy flowed directly into the paintings. It wasn’t just about color and form – it was about exchange. About connection.

Symbols of new beginnings repeatedly appear in the paintings: anemones in deep purple, luminous daffodils, iris blossoms, butterflies. They represent the movements that life triggers within us – even when they are strenuous.

As always, I painted in layers: acrylic as a base, then oil. I moved from painting to painting when I got stuck at one point. In dialogue with the series, new paths opened up.

Alchemy of Life stands for exactly that:
Growth that is not planned.
Challenges that transform.
And relationships that make us who we are.

May this series remind us that life not only challenges us but also supports us – if we are willing to embrace it.
