Soulsisters
A series about the bond between sisters – and the voices of the women before them
This series is a declaration of love.
To siblings.
To womanhood.
To what remains – delicate, wild, interwoven.
This series tells of the strength between two girls, between my sister and me, who were and are as different as blossom and root – yet grew from the same earth. One brave, radiant, with her heart on her sleeve. The other quiet, wondering, with her gaze turned inward. And yet: always one.
All paintings in this series revolve around wild roses – in large bushes, in soft pink, with thorns and fragrance. They are more than a symbol: they carry the fairy tales that shaped us – Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Rose Red. Stories we loved. Stories of sleep and awakening, of courage and tenderness, of feminine strength that does not impose itself but endures.
I painted on my grandmother’s old linen sheets – layers of memory, rootedness, lived everyday life. This is how times connect: the hands of my ancestors, the fabrics of the past, the life of today.
We laughed about different things, cried about the same. Our voices are similar, our paths are not, and yet so much so. And precisely in this difference lies the bond that does not break – because it is woven from love, not from sameness.
Behind us stand stories lived by our grandmothers. Ahead of us await our children, who will spin these threads in their own way.
And between us: golden threads of closeness, memory, and the quiet certainty that we carry each other – like fire and moss, like mother and child, like siblings.
