Sister, you are a safe place within me

Sometimes it’s not the quiet moments that make connection tangible—but the loud ones. The friction. The words that are missing. The ones that are too much. And everything that stands between us, without us really wanting it to.
This painting tells that story. Of conflict and closeness, of anger and love.
Of the strength to rub against each other without losing ourselves. In the foreground, a delicate web of soft pink lines stretches across the turmoil beneath—like a tangle of leaves that connects what’s been stirred up.
Two shapes, almost like butterflies entwined, collide. You can’t quite tell whether it’s a fight or a touch. Maybe both. The colors carry that tension: deep black-blue, vivid red, soft pink.
I painted it three years after the first painting in the series. Our mother had died in the meantime. And my sister became even closer to me. We knew: we don’t want a rift between us—not like the one that separated our mother from her sister.
This painting holds the memory that even conflict can be a path. If we don’t turn away. If we give each other space, and still find each other again.
It’s a reminder:
It can be restless. And still safe.
It can be heavy. And still held.
