Part of Myself II

2023 – “Gentle Warrior” Series (view series)
40 x 50 x 1.5 cm
Acrylic and oil on canvas

This protea reveals a different side of the series.
The tough leaves remain – but the expression is different. The thorns of thistle plants have given way to scale-like, hard leaves. They protect differently – enclosing and being less aggressive.

In the center of the bloom, delicate tendrils spread out, as lively as butterfly wings, yet as resilient as leather.
They reach out in all directions, as if to embrace the world – not despite their sensitivity, but through it.

After the offensive, protective gestures of the previous works, this painting felt like a sigh of relief.
I used the same colors – strong reds, earthy primers – but the movement in the painting became lighter.
It was as if my own armor had softened.

It becomes clear here: protection doesn’t always have to be rigid.
You can be resilient without appearing harsh.
And you can be highly sensitive without making yourself small.

The armor referred to in this series is not an alien object.
It is a part of me – born from experience, shaped by the past.
My strength belongs to me, just as my sensitivity does.

This painting reminds us that we are not either strong or sensitive.
We are both – and are free to dance in it.
Light. Fragrant. Completely ourselves.

Art is more than a decorative picture on the wall.

Art is a luxury you’re allowed to treat yourself to, because it makes something resonate within you.
Art is individual—and the opposite of mass-produced goods and fast-moving fashion.
A work of art stays with you (and sometimes for generations) and becomes part of your life and all the stories within it.

My paintings are resources in which you can recognize yourself.
They are my personal engagement with the challenges and beauty of life.

I invite you to find your own resource in the depths of the layers and the richness of the colors—for strength, focus, or calm in your own life. And to give your home a truly personal touch with my art, and tell your own story through it.
